This article provides an overview of the settings for closed questions within a questionnaire node, including categories and related options.
The categories themselves are described in more detail in other articles; see also the last section.
Closed question settings
The available settings may vary across different types of closed questions, but all are included in this table. The buttons for adding categories and category headers are explained in the articles listed below.
| Setting | Description |
| Shuffle categories | Randomize the order of categories to prevent biased answer selection. |
| Shuffle group | Questions assigned to the same shuffle group are shuffled together. Shuffle groups can be defined at the root level of the questionnaire. Learn more about shuffle question groups. |
| Sorting | Categories can be sorted alphabetically (based on the displayed text), numerically (based on the value), or in a custom order. Note that shuffling is only available when Custom sorting is selected. |
| Use other question as a source | Use the categories from another question as the source for this question. This makes it possible to reuse category lists without having to maintain or repeat long lists in multiple questions. |
| Answer categories directions | The layout can be horizontal or vertical, with vertical as the default. |
| Show in two column layout | Choose a two-column layout to reduce vertical scrolling when many categories are present. |
| Hide answer categories | Hide or show answer categories based on conditions. |
| Disable answer categories | Enable or disable answer categories based on conditions. |
| Hide answer category text | In some cases, answer categories should be hidden. Only the radio button or checkbox will be shown. |
| Show as button group | Replaces radio buttons or checkboxes with stylized buttons that display the label inside each button. |
| Answer category text position | The position of the answer category text relative to the radio button/ checkbox. |
| Vertical alignment of answer categories | Controls how the checkbox or radio button is vertically aligned with the text (Top, Bottom, Center). |
| Use the categories from another question as source for this question | Specify the question that provides the categories for this question, so long lists only need to be defined once. |
| Auto forward | Auto-forward can be enabled for radio buttons and min/max sliders in the questionnaire. At the node level, this setting can be specified as On, Off, or Not set, overriding the questionnaire default |
| Complete automatically | Filtering within the dropdown list is enabled. This option is often used when many answer categories are present. |
