A Variable can be used to create dynamic texts—such as a respondent’s full name—or to calculate results. Their values can be inserted into texts using placeholders, or included in other expressions
When adding nodes manually, a Variable cannot be selected.

Settings
A variable has only a few settings, they are all shown in the table below.
| Setting | Description |
| Show data in report | Disabling this toggle hides the node in the report. This setting cannot be overridden by the Show conditionally toggle, although the reverse is possible. Above the node tree there is an option to hide nodes for which this toggle is disabled. More information about these options can be found here. |
| Expression | Displays the variable expression. It can be edited by clicking the calculator icon, which opens the expression editor window. |
| Show conditionally | Determines whether the node is shown by evaluating an expression. If Show data in report is disabled, the node will never appear. |
| Set as default | The documentation of this feature is currently under construction. |
