Calculated questions are used to reuse responses and perform calculations within a questionnaire. Values entered in one question can be processed and applied in another question without additional input from the respondent.
Calculated questions are not visible to respondents, but they are included in exports to SPSS and Excel. They can also be referenced within the questionnaire, for example to display information based on the calculated outcome.
A calculated question can be created by adding a new node and activating the toggle option Use this question as a calculated type question. This setting can also be applied to an existing node, and the values of a calculated question are calculated by an expression (see image below for toggle and icon for expression).
For example, if a numerical question collects a respondent’s birth year, a calculated question can be set up to automatically determine this value.
